The Matrescence Dance

MAKING SPACE FOR MOTHERS’ EMOTIONS THROUGH MOVEMENT

INDIVIDUAL ONLINE TRAINING FOR MOVEMENT, DANCE & PERINATAL PROFESSIONALS

Matrescence is a powerful portal for our becoming.

‘The Matrescence Dance’ is an individual training for movement, dance and perinatal professionals who want to bring a more creative and emotional dimension to the movement spaces they hold for women.

The training can complement a range of practices, including perinatal dance, somatic movement, dance or movement-based approaches, and work supporting women through pregnancy, postpartum and motherhood.

What if dance could make space for what is changing through motherhood?

Becoming a mother can transform our relationship with our body, time, space and other people.

These changes can bring many different emotions — sometimes contradictory ones, that do not always find words.

‘The Matrescence Dance’ invites you to explore how movement can become a space for welcoming this complexity.

Through observation, embodied exploration and different creative approaches, you will learn to design movement experiences that support women in what they are living through, while opening up new possibilities for movement, expression and feeling.

You love dancing with mothers, but you’d like to go further?

  • You want to bring a richer emotional dimension to your sessions.

  • You want to develop your creativity and move beyond predictable or overly simple sequences.

  • You want to honour the diversity of maternal experiences.

  • You sense that movement can communicate and evoke much more, but you are not always sure how to work with this.

  • You would like to step back from your practice and look at it from a different perspective.

Understanding movement to better support matrescence

Drawing on the principles of Rudolf Laban, you will learn to observe, feel and understand what is happening in movement.

You will develop a more sensitive and creative way of designing movement experiences for the women you accompany through matrescence.

This training is for you if…

  • You support, or would like to support, women during pregnancy or postpartum.

  • You believe movement can support women through their matrescence.

  • You want to develop your understanding of the non-verbal expression of emotions.

  • You are looking for creative tools to enrich your sessions.

  • You want to experience the tools in your own body before sharing them with others.

What this training can bring to your practice

Throughout the training, you will develop your ability to:

Observe and understand movement

You will learn to pay attention to the qualities of movement and what they may reveal about the way a mother inhabits her body and her experience.

Work with different emotional states through movement

You will explore how to welcome a state, give it a physical form, and play with movement qualities to open up new possibilities.

Create for the realities of matrescence

You will develop your ability to compose experiences that take into account the diversity of women’s experiences, needs and emotions.

Expand your creative palette

You will leave with practical tools for creating your own movement propositions.

Support with greater sensitivity

You will develop a more conscious approach and greater freedom in the way you design and facilitate your sessions.

A training to experience before you share it

I don't want to simply give you a method to follow.

You will first experience the work in your own body.

Each session combines embodied exploration, theoretical input, reflection and practical application.

We will start from your own experience: observing what happens in movement, finding words for what you discover, and then considering together how these tools could come alive within your own practice.

Completely individual support

Your practice is unique. Your journey will be too.

‘The Matrescence Dance’ is not a standardised training to apply step by step.

Throughout the programme, I will work with you individually to explore the tools through the lens of your own experience, practice and projects.

We can question your ideas, experiment together, explore new directions and consider how this approach could find its place within the movement spaces you already hold, or want to create.

By the end of the training, you will be able to…

  • Create movement propositions that invite women to explore and express different emotional states.

  • Use movement qualities as tools for exploration.

  • Observe movement with greater sensitivity and nuance.

  • Use imagery, words, imagination and different creative prompts to stimulate expression.

  • Design movement experiences that respond to the realities of matrescence.

  • Adapt these tools to your own educational, artistic or movement practice.

The Matrescence Dance Modules

module 1 -2h

Foundation

  • Live individual session: You will guide me through a dance or movement session as you currently offer it, or would like to offer it, to mothers.

We will then take time to reflect together and establish your intentions for these spaces. Your reflections and my feedback will form the foundations of your training journey.

module 2 -2h

How Movement Works

  • Live individual session: We will explore Rudolf Laban’s movement theories to develop a deeper understanding of how different movement qualities can influence feeling and expressivity.

You will experience these qualities in your own body and explore how they can be used as tools to bring different states into awareness or help transform them.

Movement and emotions matrescence

module 3 - 2h

Movement, Emotions & Matrescence

  • Live individual session: We will explore the relationship between movement and emotions, while questioning the idea that we all experience the same movement quality in the same way.

You will learn to welcome a state, give it physical form, and explore different ways of transforming it through movement.

module 4 - 2×1h30

Making Space for Emotions through Dance

  • Live individual sessions: You will discover different entry points for generating movement: texts, works of art, images, words, reflective questions and other creative prompts.

You will learn how to transform these inspirations into movement propositions and play with movement contrasts and polarities to create experiences that are rich, nuanced and open to different ways of feeling and expressing.

module 5 - 3h

Putting it into Practice

  • Live individual session: You will guide me through a session designed for mothers, integrating the tools explored throughout the training as well as your own ideas.

Through detailed feedback, I will support you in refining your approach and developing greater confidence in facilitating your future sessions.

What this approach can open up

It is not about finding the right way to move.

It is about discovering that there are always different ways of moving, feeling, responding and relating.

The Matrescence Dance invites you to expand this palette for yourself and for the mothers you accompany.

An approach that can nourish your own embodied practice

‘The Matrescence Dance’ is not only a training in how to support others.

The tools we explore can also nourish your own way of moving, creating and relating — and, if you are a mother, accompany you in your own matrescence.

By experiencing movement qualities in your own body, you will develop a finer awareness of your habits, your possibilities and your own unique way of moving.
