Barre&Baby Classes

holistic movement for pre & postnatal mothers

barre&baby is so much more than a dance class.

It is a movement to revolutionise motherhood.

The mother’s body is a such an incredible source of wisdom, creativity and life. Yet modern society has left many mothers feeling disempowered and disconnected - from their bodies, their babies, and each other.

Founded in 2014 by Elisa Reinerio, Barre&Baby is rooted in a deep and scientific understanding of matrescence - the physical and psychological changes of becoming a mother.

By supporting you move through motherhood in a natural, fun and therapeutic way, we hope you trust yourself more, as well as your power to create change in your own life, and the world.

Benefits of Barre&Baby

  • A woman with short brown hair and pearl earrings holding a small child in a gray striped shirt, taking a selfie or pointing at something. The background is blurred, featuring a woman in a pink top.

    Physical Wellbeing

Every step of Barre&Baby has been designed to improve pregnancy and postnatal wellbeing. By involving everything from fingers to toes, we’re aiming to create space, improve circulation, strengthen the body and increase flexibility. Greater body awareness leads to better posture and alignment and empowers mums to trust their body’s signals.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), regular movement in pregnancy can reduce back pain, improve sleep, reduce risk of gestational diabetes, and improve overall endurance for labor.

  • A woman with long brown hair and a pink shirt, with her eyes closed and hand on her chest, appearing to be experiencing a moment of emotional or physical sensation in a modern indoor setting.

    Mental Wellbeing

During Barre&Baby classes, you’ll find yourself entering a sort of movement meditation, and releasing endorphins (the ‘feel-good’ hormones), that boost energy levels and uplifts your spirit.

A recenty study showed how dance-based movement improves mood, decreases cortisol levels, and enhances emotional wellbeing.

In addition, a movement group setting promotes oxytocin release — the "bonding hormone" — not only between mother and baby, but between mothers in community, reducing stress and increasing emotional resilience.

  • A woman holding a baby in a baby carrier is smiling at another woman who is leaning on a ballet barre, smiling back and gesturing with her hands in a dance studio.

    Baby's Wellbeing

During pregnancy, movement enhances blood flow and nutrient delivery to the fetus. Also, dance and positive touch (like massage or gentle movement) reduce maternal cortisol levels, helping to promote a calmer in-utero environment.

Babywearing and soothing music supports your baby’s emotional and sensory development. As you dance, their vestibular system is stimulated.

By keeping your baby close, sharing breaths and emotions, you’ll create a deeper bond that will last a lifetime. Plus, babies are often so relaxed that they fall asleep - which will give you some much deserved mummy-time!
